Ensoilment | On Rituals, Remembrance, Roots, and Resurrection at the End of the World

This little 24-page zine is a compost heap of prayers, rituals, liturgies, and reflections meant to help cultivate moments of contemplation and connection between ourselves and the Earth. What is contained in these pages is dirty, fungal, and still in the process of becoming rich fertilizer for the growth of land-connected spiritualities rooted in liberation capable of responding to our present apocalyptic/ecological crisis.

Though the contents of this zine have largely emerged out of the Christian tradition and its lexicon, it is by no means contained or confined by it, and instead exists at the intersections of a mythical and mystical mycelial network that draws on a wide body of wisdom and tradition with honor, respect, and deeply rooted gratitude. Any good farmer will tell you that different soils need different amendments, so what is contained here may not be exactly what everyone needs, but if you approach these rituals like recipes then you will be able to improvise and substitute the ingredients as needed and to your liking!

Now more than ever with the effects of the Climate Crisis no longer looming in some distant speculative future we must find our way back to the Earth. We must undergo the metanoia and metamorphosis necessary to arrive again at a world brimming with Spirit, soil, and sacrament all anxiously waiting to introduce us to a God who resides within every creek, underneath every stone, and deep within the wild blackberry brambles.

We must be re/membered to the Earth.

We must become ensoild people.

The zine contains rituals and prayers for roadside roadkill burials, praying with dandelions, practicing an ecological version of lectio divina, and so many more that I wrote to help us find our roots, remember and be remembered to the earth, and lead us toward practices of resurrection in a world hellbent on death and destruction!
